initial amount is 600 Rs.

let principal = P

rate of interest per annum = 5%

time period , t = 4 yrs

final amount , A = 720 Rs.

we know, Simple interest, S.I = P × r × t/100

so, A = S.I + P

⇒720 = P × 5 × 4/100 + P

⇒720 = P/5 + P = 6P/5

⇒P = 720 × 5/6 = 600 Rs.

hence, initial amount is 600 Rs.

The sum is Rs.600.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the sum is P.

Given: The sum which becomes Rs.720 after 4 years at 5% per annum at SI.

A=P +SI

720 = P+ \frac{P \times r \times t}{100}

P(1 +  \frac{4 \times 5}{100} ) = 720

P(1 +  \frac{1}{5} ) = 720

P( \frac{6}{5} ) = 720

P = 600

The sum is Rs.600.
