mean = (3 + 4 + 6 +8 + 14) / 5

mean = 7

sum of deviation = (3-7) + (4-7) + (6-7) + (8-7) + (14-7)
= -4 + -3 + -1 + 1 + 7
= 0

mean =
 \frac{sum \: of \: variote \: value}{total \: number \: of \: variote \: value}
=
 \frac{3 + 4 + 6 + 8 + 14}{5}
 \frac{35}{5}
=7 is the mean
