Given :

Mass of block 1 = 8kg

Mass of block 2 = 4kg

Both are connected as shown in the figure.

To Find :

Tension in the string.

Solution :

First of all we need to find acceleration of the whole system. After that we will find tension in the string by using FBD method.

As per newton's second law of motion, force is measured as the product of mass and acceleration.

\longrightarrow \sf F= ma \\\\\longrightarrow (m_1- m_2)g = (m_1+m_2) \times a  \\\\\longrightarrow (8-4)10 = (8+4) \times a \\\\\longrightarrow 4g = 12a \\\\\longrightarrow \bf a = g/3 \  m/s^2

From the FBD of block 1;

\longrightarrow \sf m_1g-T = m_1a \\\\\longrightarrow 8g-T = 8 g/3\\\\\longrightarrow T = 16 \ g/3 \\\\\longrightarrow T= 160/3 \\\\\longrightarrow \bf T = 53.33N
