Step-by-step explanation:

Let the third proportional be x.

So, (a-b) , (a^2 - b^2) and x are in continued proportion.

Therefore,

 \frac{a - b}{ {a}^{2} -  {b}^{2}  }  =  \frac{ {a}^{2} -  {b}^{2}  }{x}

 =  > x(a - b) =  ({a}^{2}  -  {b}^{2} )( {a}^{2}  -  {b}^{2} )

 =  > x =  \frac{(a + b)(a - b)(a + b)(a -  b )}{a - b}

 =  > x =  (a + b)(a - b)(a + b)

 =  > x = ( {a + b)}^{2} (a - b)

The required third proportional is (a+b)^2(a-b).
