Area of a triangle = 1/2 x base x height

Find the altitude with base 10 cm:

42 = 1/2 (10) (height)

42 = 5 x height

height = 42 ÷ 5 = 8.4 cm

Find the altitude with base 7 cm:

42 = 1/2 (7) (height)

42 = 3.5 x height

height = 42 ÷ 3.5 = 12 cm

Find the altitude with base 9 cm:

42 = 1/2 (9) (height)

42 = 4.5 x height

height = 42 ÷ 4.5 = 9.3 cm

Answer: The three altitudes are 8.4 cm, 12cm and 9.3 cm
