The total current supplied to the circuit by the battery is -

[ A ] 1 A

[ B ] 2 A

[ C ] 4 A

[ D ] 6 A

S0lUtI0n -

See the attachment ( s ) above for the circuit diagram ( s ).

The second attachment shows the naming of the various resistances to simplify the question.

Here,

Expanding the diagram -

A and B are parallel

=> Net resistance = { 3 × 3 } / { 3 + 3 } = 1.5 Ohm = F

Resistance E is in series with resistance F

=> Net Resistance = 1.5 Ohm + 2 Ohm = 3.5 Ohm = G

Now,

Resistance G is parallel to resistance C

=> Net resistance => { 3.5 × 3 } / 6.5 = 1.5 Ohm approximately.

Now,

According To Ohm ' s Law :

V = I R

=> I = { V / R }

=> I = { 6 / 1.5 } A = 4 A

So The total current supplied to the circuit by the battery is 4 Amperes.

Hence Option C is Correct answer.

When resistances are in Series -

  • Equivalent Resistance = R1 + R2 + ...... + Rn

When resistances are parallel -

  • 1 / Equivalent R = 1 / R 1 + 1 / R 2 + ....... + 1 / R n

Solution :

Given :

A circuit of five resistors is provided.

To Find :

The total current supplied to the circuit by the battery.

Concept :

→ First we have to calculate equivalent resistance of the circuit.

→ After that we can calculate current flow with the help of ohm's law.

→ As per ohm's law, V=IR

Calculation :

✏ Please see the attachment for calculation of equivalent resistance.

Eq. resistance = 1.5Ω

⏭ V = IR

⏭ 6 = I×1.5

⏭ I = 4A

Current flow = 4A
