Total = 64 + 49 + 36 + 25 + 16 + 9 + 4 + 1 = 204
         = 1² + 2² + 3² + 4² + 5² + 6² + 7² + 8²
There are 64 squares of size 1 unit (smallest squares).
Then there are 49 squares of size 2 smallest squares.
There are 36 squares of size 3 smallest squares.
There are 25 squares of size 4 smallest squares.

There are 16 squares of size 5 smallest squares.
There are 9 squares of size 6 smallest squares.
There are 4 squares of size 7 smallest squares.
There is 1 square of size 8 smallest squares. That is the total chess board.
