The total surface area of a cuboid is 10a² units.

To find : The total surface area of a cuboid.

Given : Cuboid obtained by joining two cubes of edges "a" unit side by side.

Formula :

Total surface area of a cuboid = 2(lw+lh+hw)

Finding area of cuboid :

l = length = a units

w = width = a units

(If a cuboid obtained by joining two cubes of edges, the height becomes "a+a = 2a". For better understanding refer the diagram.)

h = height = a+a = 2a units

Total surface area (T.S.A) of a cuboid = 2(lw+lh+hw)

                                                              = 2 [(a×a)+(a×2a)+(2a×a)]

                                                              = 2 [a²+2a²+2a²]

                                                              = 2 [5a²]

                                                              = 10a² units.

Thus, the total surface area of a cuboid is 10a² units.
