(i)

Given :

  • Edge of the cube = 8.5 cm

To Find :

The total surface area.

Required Formula :

Total surface area = 6a²

where,

  • a = edge or side

Explanation :

We know that if we are given the side or edge of the cube and is asked to find the total surface area of the cube then the required formula is,

Total surface area = 6a²

where,

  • a = 8.5 cm

Substituting the required values,

⇒ TSA = 6(8.5)²

⇒ TSA = 6(72.25)

⇒ TSA = 6 × 72.25

⇒ TSA = 433.5

TSA = 433.5 cm².

Total surface area of cube is 433.5 cm².

(ii)

Given :

  • Length = 5.5 cm
  • Breadth = 3.4 cm
  • Height = 2 cm

To Find :

The total surface area.

Required Formula :

Total surface area = 2(lb + bh + lh)

where,

  • l = Length
  • b = Breadth
  • h = Height

Explanation :

We know that if we are given the length, breadth and height of the cuboid and is asked to find the total surface area of the cuboid then the required formula is,

Total surface area = 2(lb + bh + lh)

where,

  • l = 5.5 cm
  • b = 3.4 cm
  • h = 2 cm

Substituting the required values,

⇒ TSA = 2(lb + bh + lh)

⇒ TSA = 2[(5.5)(3.4) + (3.4)(2) + (5.5)(2)]

⇒ TSA = 2[18.7 + 6.8 + 11]

⇒ TSA = 2[36.5]

⇒ TSA = 2 × 36.5

⇒ TSA = 73

TSA = 73 cm².

Total surface area of cuboid is 73 cm².
