Find the valency of Sulphur in SO2 and of Carbon in C2H4?​

Valency of carbon is always 4 because it needed 4 more electron to complete its octate . Hence valency is always fix of any element . If you are asking about oxidation state of these compounds then in cH4 oxidation state of carbon is 4 , in C2H6 it is 3 and in C2H4 it is 2 . But it is its oxidation state not valency .....

So,for sulfur to attain stability it has to gain 2 electron. Therefore combining capacity ofsulfur or valency is -2. Compunds of sulphurlike SO3, SO2, etc have a valency of 6. Compounds like H2S have a valency of 2.
