1/(1-x^m x x^(-n)] + 1/[1-x^n x x^(-m)],

x^n/(x^n - x^m) + x^m/(x^m - x^n),

x^n/(x^n - x^m) - x^m/(x^n - x^m),

now take the LCM here, we get

(x^n - x^m)/(x^n - x^m),
