find the value of : (1) p2+q2 if p-q =6 and p + q =14​

Answer:

p – q = 6 and p + q = 14  ....(i)

Consider,

(p  + q)2 = (p - q)2 + 4pq

142 = 62 + 4pq

196 = 36 + 4pq

4pq = 160

pq = 40  ....(ii)

 

(p + q)2 = p2 + q2 + 2pq

142 = p2 + q2 + 2 × 40      from (i) and (ii)

p2 + q2 = 196 - 80 = 116
