Given:

(5.1)²

To find:

The value of 5.1²

Solution:

First of all, we should know about one of the algebraic identities which is

 {(x + y)}^{2}  =  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  + 2xy \:  \:  \: (i)

Now, as given, we have

 {(5.1)}^{2}

This can be written as the sum of 5 and 0.1,

So,

 {(5 + 0.1)}^{2}

From the (i) algebraic identity,

we get

 {(5 + 0.1)}^{2}  =

 {(5)}^{2}  +  {(0.1)}^{2}  + 2(5)(0.1)

 = 25 + 0.01 + 1

After adding all terms, we get

 = 26.01

Hence, the value of 5.1² is 26.01.
