A different approach from what others have stated.

Mathematically the sequence is of the form

n^2 +(n+1) , where n starts from 0.

0^2 +(0+1) = 1

1^2 + (1+1) =3

2 ^2 + (2+1) = 7

3^2 + (3+1) = 14

4^2 + (4+1) = 21

5^2 + (5+1) = 31

6^2 + (6+1) = 43

7^2 + (7+1) = 57

.

.

It can also be expressed as (n-1)^2 +n

Where n is the number of term.

1st term = (1-1)^2 + 1 =1

2nd term = (2-1)^2 + 2 =3

3rd term = (3-1)^2 +3 =7

4th term = (4-1)^2 + 4 = 13

Similarly 8th term = (8-1)^2 + 8 = 57.
