ang C + ang D + ang E = 180 (sun of all angles of a triangle)

ang C + 40 + 55 =180

ang C = 180 - 95

ang C = 85

now,

ang DCE = ang ACB = 85 degrees ( vertically opp angles)

also, DE || AB with DB as the transversal

ang EDB = ang DBA = a = 40 degrees (alternate interior angles)

again, from triangle ABC

ang A + ang B + ang C = 180

b + a + 85 = 180

b + 40 + 85 = 180

b = 180 - 125

b = 55 degrees
