rationalising the denominator with √3-1

(√3-1)/(√3+1)*(√3-1)/(√3-1)

(√3-1)²/(√3)²-1²

(√3)²+1+2√3/(3-1)

(3+1+2√3)/2

(4+2√3)/2

2(2+√3)/2

2+√3

on comparing with a+b√3

a=2 and b=1
