We have midpoint formula=
(X1+X2/2,Y1+Y2/2)
Thus here (X1,Y1) = Q(-5,4)
And (X2,Y2)= R(-1,0)
Substituting in the formula we get.
(a,0) = (-5-1/2,4+0/2)
(a,0)=(-3,2)
Equating the ordinates we get
a=-3
