Given:

☛ point A(x1 , y1) = ( -3,-14 )

☛ point B(x2 , y2) = ( a, -5 )

To Find:

☛ Value of a

Solution:

By distance formula:

☛ AB = √(x2 - x1)² + (y2 - y1)²

➜ 9 = √(a - (-3))² + (-5 -(-14))²

➜ 9 = √(a + 6)² + (9)²

Squaring both sides

➜ 9² = ( √(a + 6)² + (9)² )²

➜ 81 = (a + 6)² + 81

➜ (a + 6)² = 0

Square root both sides

➜ a + 6 = 0

➜ a = -6

Hence, Value of a is -6
