Given points are A(-3,-14), B(a,-5).

Here, x₁ = -3, x₂ = a, y₁ = -14, y₂ = -5.

We will use the distance formula:

⇒ AB = √(x₂ - x₁)^2 + (y₂ - y₁)^2

⇒ 9 = √(a + 3)^2 + √(-5 + 14)^2

On Squaring both sides, we get

⇒ 81 = (a + 3)^2 + (9)^2

⇒ 81 = a^2 + 6a + 9 + 81

⇒ a^2 + 6a + 9 = 0

⇒ (a + 3)^2 = 0

⇒ a + 3 = 0

a = -3.

Hope it helps!
