On Squaring both sides, we get

⇒ 81 = (a + 3)^2 + (9)^2

⇒ 81 = a^2 + 6a + 9 + 81

⇒ a^2 + 6a + 9 = 0

⇒ (a + 3)^2 = 0

⇒ a + 3 = 0

⇒ a = -3.
