(x - 1) is a factor means at x = 1, p(x) = 0.

p(x) = x^3 + ax^2 + 2x + a - 1

p(1) = 1^3 + a*1^2 + 2*1 - 1 = 0

1 + a + 2 - 1 = 0

a = -2 ——> Answer
