Given, x = 1 and y = 2

  =  > {a}^{2} x + ay = 3 \\  =  >  {a}^{2} (1) + a(2) = 3 \\  =  >  {a}^{2}  + 2a  -  3 = 0 \\   =  >  {a}^{2}  + 3a - a - 3 = 0 \\   =  > a(a + 3 ) - (a + 3) = 0 \\ =  > (a + 3)(a - 1 ) = 0

→ a + 3 = 0 → a = - 3

Or, a - 1 = 0 → a = 1

given,

x= 1
y = 2

=> a² +2a =3

=> a² + 2a - 3 =0

=> a² +3a - a -3

=> a(a+3) -1(a +3)

=> (a+3)(a-1)

=> a= 1 or a= -3

Hope it help you
