hi ,

here is your answer!!!

given ,

=> a² -10 a = 5

or

=> a² -10a -5 =0

=> on applying quadratic formula

- b ±√ D
---------------
2a

D = b² - 4ac

given ,

a = 1

b = - 10

c = - 5

therefore ,

D = b² - 4ac

=> (-10)² - 4 x 1 -5

=> 100 +20

=> 120

on putting the value in formula

we get

=> - b ±√D / 2a

=> -(-10) ± √120 /2 x1

10 ± √120 / 2

hence ,

your answer is =>

10 - √120 / 2

and

10 + √120 /2

hope it helps you dear!!!!
thanks

a²-10a = 5

a²-10-5 = 0

it's form of ax²+bx+c = 0

so a = 1 b = -10 c = -5

according to Shridhar's law

(+- means plus or minus)

a = -b +-√b²-4ac/2a

a = -(-10)+-√(-10)²-4(1)(-5)/2(1)

a = 10+-√100+20/2

a = 10+-√120/2

a = 10+-√4×30/2

a = 10+-2√30/2

( take common as 2)

a = 2(5+-√30)/2

a = 5+-√30

a = 5+√30. OR. a = 5-√30

so the value of a is 5+√30 or 5 -√30
