Question :

Find the value of a so that the point (3,a), lies on the line represented by 2x+3y=5 ?

solution :

Given,

Given equation = 2x + 3y = 5

According to the question ,

substitute ( 3 , a ) in equation .

2 (3) + 3 ( a ) = 5

2 ( 3 ) + 3a = 5

6 + 3a = 5

=> 3a = 5 - 6

3a = - 1

a = -1 / 3

Therefore,

a = -1 / 3.
