As x-6 is a factor of the given polynomial , then if we put x=6 in the given polynomial, it's value will be zero. Then

(6)^3+5*(6)^2–4*(6)+a =0

216+180–24+a=0

Or , 396–24+a=0

or, 372+a=0

or, a= -372 , So, the value of a = -372 , so that (x-6) is a factor of the given polynomial.
