find the value of alpha such that quadratic equation (alpha-3)x^2+4(alpha-3)x+4=0 has equal roots.

if roots are equal then D=0

16(a-3)^2-4(a-3)(4)=0

(a-3)[16(a-3) - 16]=0

(a-3)(16a-48-16)=0

so either a-3=0 ; a=3

or 16a -64=0 ; a=4
