Answer:

BY SUBSTITUTION METHOD

x+2y = -1 --------------(i)

2x-3y = 12 ------------(ii)

THEREFORE, FROM (i)

x = -1-2y -----------(iii)

NOW, PUT THE VALUE OF (iii) in (ii), WE GET,

  • (-1-2y) + 2y = 12
  • 2(-1-2y) -3y = 12
  • -2-4y-3y = 12
  • -7y = 14

y = -2 -------------(iv)

NOW PUT THE VALUE OF (iv) in (i), WE GET,

x + 2(-2) = -1

x = -1 + 4

x = 3

HENCE, THE VALUE OF y is -2 AND THE VALUE OF x is 3.
