Since the denominators are unequal, we cannot simply add or subtract them.

Make them equal by taking their L.C.M.

The L. C. M. of 3 and 1 is 3.

\longrightarrow{\green{}}  \frac{5 \times 1}{ - 3 \times 1} - \frac{2 \times 3}{1 \times 3} \\

\longrightarrow{\green{}}  \frac{5}{ - 3} - \frac{6}{3} \\

Seeing as the above expression has common denominators, we can now combine them.

\longrightarrow{\green{}}  \frac{ - 5 - 6}{3} \\

\longrightarrow{\green{}}  \frac{ - 11}{3} \\

\longrightarrow{\green{}}    - 3.667
