 {i}^{39}  +  {i}^{ - 39}  = 0

because,

 {i}^{2}  =  - 1

 {i}^{39}  =   { {i}^{2} }^{19} \times i  =  { - 1}^{19}  \times i =  - 1 \times i =  - i

 {i}^{ - 39}  = 1 \div  {i}^{39}

1 \div  {i}^{39}  = 1 \div  ( - i)

1 \div ( - i) \times  - i \div  - i

 - i \div  {i}^{2}

 - i \div ( - 1) = i

 {i}^{39}  +  {i}^{ - 39}  =  - i + i = 0
