(i) Given : x = - λ and y = 5/2 is a solution of the equation x + 4y - 7 = 0.

Equation : x + 4y – 7 = 0

On putting x = - λ and y = 5/2 in the given equation :

⇒ -λ + 4 × (5/2) – 7 = 0

⇒ -λ + 2 × 5 -  7 = 0

⇒ -λ + 10 -  7 = 0

⇒ -λ + 3 = 0

⇒ -λ = 0 - 3

⇒ -λ = - 3

⇒ λ = 3

Hence, the value of λ is 3.
