We know alpha and 2 alpha are the roots of the equation, substituting the values in the equation we get,

let's take alpha = a

a^2 +ka+12=0 (i)

and

4a^2 +2ka +12=0 (ii)

Multiplying (I) with 2 and subtracting it from (ii)

4a^2 +2ka+12=0
-2a^2-2ka-24=0
2a^2=12
a^2 = 6
a= +or - √6

from (I)

k= -18/√6 or k= -√6

Hope this helps.
