find the value of k for which a pair of equation has no solution 3x+ 2ky= 2 and 2x + 5y =1

  • Condition for the lines to be parallel is

a2a1=b2b1=c2c1

Here the equations are

3x+2ky=2 and 2x+5y+1=0

So, a1=3,b1=2k,c1=−2 and a2=2,b2=5,c2=1

∴a2a1=23,b2b1=52k and c2c1=1−2=−2

∴52k=23

∴k=15/4
