D=b^2-4ac
0=576-36k
576=36k
k= 16

since \: the \: roots \: are \: equal \: the \: discriminant \:  \\ must \: be \: equal \: to \: zero \\ discriminant =  {b}^{2}  - 4ac \\   ( { - 24)}^{2}  - 4 \times 9k = 0 \\ k = 24 \times 24 \div 4 \times 9 = 16 \\ hence \: k = 16
