Here is your answer:
We know that D= b² - 4ac
Also we are given that roots are equal that means D= 0
So, 0 = (2k-8)²- 4 (2k-8) (2)
0 = 4k²- 32k + 64 + (-8k + 32)2
0 = 4k²-32k + 64 +16k - 64
0 = 4k² - 16 k
0 = 4k (k-4)
0 = k-4
k =4
