x = 1

2x³+9x²+x+k = 0

put x = 4

2(1)³+9(1)²+1+k = 0

2+9+1+k = 0

12 + k = 0

k = -12

x = 1

Now keeping the value of x in p(x),

p(x) = 2x^3 + 9x^2 + x + k = 0

p ( 1 ) = 2 (1)^3 + 9 (1)^2 + 1 + k = 0

2 + 9 + 1 + k = 0

12 + k = 0

k = -12
