find the value of k for which (x-1) is a factor of polynomial x³+kx²+142x-120

Hi , there !!!

here is your answer !!

( x -1 ) is factor of x³ + kx² +142x -120

x- 1 = 0

x = 1

putting the value of x in polynomial we get

1 ³ + K× ( 1 )² +142 ( 1 ) -120 = 0

=> 1 + k +142 -120 = 0

=> 22 +1 + k = 0

k = -23
