Here

p(x) = kx² + x - 6 = 0.

We want -2 to be a factor.

So x = -2.

Put this value.

Thus we get,

k(2)² + 2 - 6 = 0.

= 4k = 4.

= k = 4/4

= k = 1.

So  the value of k for which x= -2 is a root of the quadratic equation kx² + x - 6 = 0 is 1.
