if a1 / a2 = b1 / b2 = c1 / c2 then the pair of linear equations a1x + b1y + c1 = 0, a2x + b2y + c2 = 0 has a no solution. Given system of equations 8x + 5y - 9 = 0 and kx + 10y - 15 = 0 a1 = 8, b1 = 5, c1 = -9 a2 = k, b2 = 10, c2 = -15 a1/a2 = 8 / k , b1/b2 = 5 / 10 = 1 / 2. a1/a2 = b1/b2 ⇒ 8 / k =  1/ 2 ∴ k = 16.
