The solution we get after solving them simultaneously are the points where the lines intersect.

For a system of linear equations to have no solution the lines must not intersect and hence they must be parallel and not coinciding.

For the lines to be parallel:

5 : 10 : : k : 14

⇒ k = 5 ÷ 10 × 14

⇒ k = 7

The constant value of both equations are different (i.e, 8 & 12) hence they are not coinciding.

Therefore for k = 7 the pair of linear equations has no solution.
