Step-by-step explanation:

For equal roots, the discriminant (D) = 0, i.e. b^2 – 4ac = 0

x^2-4kx+8=0

b= -4k

a= 1

c= 8

= b^2 – 4ac = 0

0= (-4k)^2 - 4(1) (8)

0= 16 k^2 - 32

0=16(k^2 -2)

0= k^2 -2

k^2 -2=0

(k+√2) (k-√2)= 0

k= √2 or -√2
