Answer:

If the root x²+Kx+k= 0 are real and equal l, what is the value of k?

Given quadratic equation:

x²+kx-8=0 ,

Compare this with ax²+bx+c=0,we get

a = 1 , b = k , c = -8

Let m and m² are two roots of the equation,

i) Sum of the roots = -b/a

=> m+m² = -k/1 —-(1)

ii ) Product of the roots = c/a

=> m×m² = -8

=> m³ = (-2)³

=> m = -2 —-(2)

Substitute m=-2 in equation (1) ,we get

=> -2 + (-2)² = -k

=> -2 + 4 = -k

=> 2 = -k

=> k = -2

Therefore,

Value of k = -2
