Find the value of k if the slope of the line joining the points (3,-4) and the (k,2) is -3

Answer:

(3, -4) = (x1, y1)

(k, 2) = (x2, y2)

.: By slope formula,

 \frac{y2 - y1}{x2 - x1}  \\  \frac{2 - ( - 4)}{k - 3}  = -  3 \\  \frac{2 + 4}{k - 3}  =  - 3 \\  \frac{6}{k - 3}  =  - 3 \\  \frac{2}{k}  =  - 3  \\ k =  \frac{ - 3}{2}
