x = 1/2
P ( x ) = 8x³ + kx² - 4x + 2
p (1/2) = 8 × (1/2)³ + k × (1/2)² - 4 × 1/2 + 2
=> 8 × 1/8 + k × 1/4 - 2 + 2 = 0
=> 1 + k/4 = 0
=> 4 + k = 0
=> K = -4
x = 1/2

therefore on putting values :-
p ( 1/2 ) = 8 (1/2)³ + k (1/2)² - 4 (1/2) + 2 = 0
=> 8 ( 1/8 ) + k (1/4) - 2 + 2 = 0
=> 1 + k (1/4) = 0
=> k (1/4) = -1
=> k = -1/1 × 4/1
=> k = -4
hence, the value of k is -4
