if x-1 is a factor, it means that it will satisfy the equation, so all you have to do is just put the value of x ad x-1 and solve the equation

p(x-1) = k(x-1)^2 - 3 (x-1) + k

= k ( x^2 + 1 - 2x ) -3x +3 + k

= kx^2 + k -2kx -3x +3+I

try solving it further by equating this equation to 0
