x-1 is a factor of p(x)

x-1 = 0

x=1

which means

p(x)=0 at x= 1

p(1)= 3(1)^3+5(1)^2 -6(1)+k

p(1)= 3+ 5-6 +k

p(1) = 2 + k

p(1)=0

2+k=0

k=-2
