 \sf \: x - 1 \: is \: a \: factor \: of \:  {4x}^{3} +  {3x}^{2} - 2x + k

So, by using factor theorem

 \sf \: 4( {1)}^{3}  + 3( {1)}^{2}  - 2 \times 1 + k = 0

 \sf \: 4 + 3 - 2 + k = 0

 \sf \: 5 + k = 0

 \sf \: k \:  =  \:  -  \: 5
