Now 2x²+kx=0
or x(2x+k)=0.......(i)
But given that (x+1) is a factor of 2x²+kx
So 2x+k must be equal to x+1
Therefore 2x+k = x+1.......(ii)
or k = 1–x ......(iii)
If we will see equations (i) and (ii) we get
x(x+1)=0
x=0 or x = –1
putting these values in equation (iii) we have
k = 1 (impossible)or k=2
so required answer is k=2
