given,

x-1 is the factor of p(x)

so,

x-1 =0

x=1

p(x)=

2 {x}^{2}  + kx +  \sqrt{2}

now, putting the value of x=1

p(1) = 2 + K +√2

now taking

p(1) = 0

we get,

2+k+√2=0

k= -2-√2

k= - (2+√2)
