Let f(x) = 3 x² + k x + √2

x - 1 is a factor of f(x)

By Factor Theorem , f(1) = 0

Put x = 1 in the question to get :

f(1) = 0

==> 3 × 1² + k × 1 +√2 = 0

==> 3 + k + √2 = 0

==> k = - √2 - 3

==> k = - ( √2 + 3 )

The value of k is - ( √2 + 3 )

Hope it helps
