k = 2

Step-by-step explanation:

QUESTION :-

Find the value of k, if x = 3 and y = 1 is a solution of the equation.

(k - 2)x + 5y = 5

_________________________

SOLUTION :-

x = 3 ; y = 1

(k - 2)x + 5y = 5

[put the value of x & y]

=> (k - 2)3 + 5(1) = 5

=> 3(k) - 3(2) + 5 = 5

= 3k - 6 = 5-5

=> 3k - 6 = 0

=> 3k = 6

=> k = 6 ÷ 3

=> k = 2

Hence,

The value of k is 2 .

TO VERIFY :-

x = 3 ; y = 1 ; k = 2

(k - 2)x + 5y = 5

=> (2 - 2)3 + 5(1) = 5

=> 0×3 + 5 = 5

=> 0 + 5 = 5

=> 5 = 5

=> LHS = RHS

hence verified.
