When we want equal roots then,

D = 0

So b square - 4ac = 0

In the given quadratic equation,

a = 3, b= - 2k, c = 12

Putting the values,

(-2k) square - 4(3)(12) = 0

4k square - 144 = 0

4k square =144

4k = Root 144

4k = 12

k = 12/4 = 3

Hence, k = 3.
